Attendance
We are not able to authorise absence for any other reasons except in exceptional circumstances. We recognise the importance of children’s attendance at school because we strongly believe in the importance of education, and the link between regular attendance and raising children’s attainment. In order to achieve this we need to work in partnership with parents, having a shared responsibility in promoting and ensuring good attendance in school.
**Important changes to statutory guidance for attendance**
The Department for Education has recently issued an update to statutory guidance for attendance which comes into effect from 19th August 2024 and can be viewed below, along with a letter from the Headteacher:

Things you can do to help your child achieve!
- Ensure your child attends school EVERY DAY unless your child is ill.
- If they are ill please ensure that you inform the school ASAP by calling the school office on 01249 730271. Only keep them home if they are really unable to attend.
- Let us know with as much notice as possible if your child / children have appointments at the doctors or dentists. Appointments should be made outside school time although we recognize this is not always possible, when an appointment might be needed urgently or your child needs to attend a hospital appointment.
- Phone school EVERY morning that your child is absent, so that our attendance records are accurate and up-to-date.
- Make sure your child arrives on time! Remember, doors close promptly so do not be late to arrive! Late comers not only miss vital lesson time but also disrupt learning for other members of the class too.
- Make sure that we have all the correct contact details for you so that we can contact you about illnesses or absence.

Sickness Absence
If your child is ill please let the school know as soon as possible by calling 01249 730271.
Can we remind parents that if your child has an episode of sickness and/or diarrhoea, they must not attend school until they have been clear of symptoms for 48 hours. This is the guidance issued by the Department of Health.
Absence due to illness or when visiting the doctor or dentist is marked in the register as ‘authorised’.
