The Lacock Governors

School Governors

The purpose of the Board of Governors is to oversee the success of the school. Every Board of Governors has these three core functions:
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

As leaders in a school with a Christian foundation, we are aware that the kind of leadership we are called to is one of service to the school community, in humilty and with strong resolve, just as a shepherd cares for every one of his flock. 'Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock' (1Pe 5:2-3).

Who's who?

The governors represent a cross-selection of the local community, and there are various categories of governor which are explained briefly here:
  • Parent (P) governors must be the parent of a child currently attending the school and are nominated and elected by other parents of children currently at the school.
  • Staff (S) governors are nominated and elected by the staff of the school.
  • Local Authority (LA) governors are nominated and approved by the Local Authority.
  • Co-opted (C) governors are nominated by the school to be a representative of the local community.
  • Foundation (F) governors represent the church and have particular care for the the School's Christian character, and ensuring the founding ethos of the school is incorporated into all aspects of the school's life.

Liz Banister (LA)
Liz Banister grew up in Chippenham and returned to the area in 2000.  Having taught science in secondary schools for many years, she now works as an educational consultant providing support for primary, secondary and special schools.  This enables her to have time to enjoy travel, gardening and baking.
