Visit from Queen Camilla - A Perfect Finale to our Bicentenary Celebrations - 11th July 2024
Today we had the very great privilege of welcoming Her Majesty Queen Camilla to our school. The Queen’s visit heralded a magnificent ending to our series of activities and events marking the 200th anniversary of the school.
Following her arrival in the early afternoon, Queen Camilla was shown around the school by our Headteacher, Mrs Jackson and spent time with each of the classes, chatting with the children about their learning and hearing songs and poems.
The Queen also viewed our fantastic commemorative artwork, featuring photographs taken by the children in the style of William Henry Fox-Talbot (the school’s founder and pioneer of modern photography), and kindly signed our bicentenary scrapbook which we created to document all of this year's celebratory events.
Her majesty unveiled a plaque marking today’s visit and was presented with a posy and bicentenary badge by Parker Thomson and Arla Trought from Willow class (which she promised to wear!) before being treated to a performance by the children of a song which was specifically written about the school and highlights the school's vision.
The Queen very kindly gifted us a selection of books for our school library including a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone (the film of which featured various locations in Lacock), as well as Paddington At The Palace, The Tiger Who Came To Tea, Swallows And Amazons and Moorland Mousie, for which Her Majesty Queen Camilla wrote the foreword.
After joining us for a final group photograph underneath the school’s original 1824 foundation stone, the Queen greeted many of the assembled parents, carers and members of the public outside the school.
We would like to thank Her Majesty the Queen for taking time out of her busy schedule to visit us for the finale of our bicentenary celebrations and for her thoughtful and generous gifts to the school. We would also like to thank everyone who has been involved in planning, organizing, creating, fund raising and generating support for this year's wonderful program of bicentenary events. It has been an incredible year for our very special little village school, filled with so many special memories for the children to cherish for a lifetime.

Oak Class Residential 24th - 26th June 2024
The children in Oak class, along with Mrs White and Mrs Simms, had a fantastic time on their residential experience at Braeside last week. The sun shone throughout, enabling the children to take part in a whole raft of exciting activities including, orienteering, archery, building and cooking over camp fires, tackling the climbing wall and cooling off on a giant water slide (which was a reward for the children's excellent behaviour). We have enjoyed hearing all about their adventures and are sure that lasting memories were made!

Lacock C.E. Primary School has been awarded a ‘Good’ judgement overall with the area of Behaviour and Attitudes graded as ‘Outstanding.’
The report is a very positive one and reflects the hard work and commitment of all the staff and the enthusiasm and dedication of the pupils. Some highlights from the report include:

Lacock School Bicentenary Celebration Service - 20th June 2024
At the end of last week we held a special service of celebration in St Cyriac’s church. The service celebrated 200 years of our school which was founded in 1824 by William Henry Fox-Talbot to mark his 21st birthday. Following the service, we hosted a tea party for parents/carers, past pupils and staff, and welcomed a very special guest - the great-great-great-grandson of Fox-Talbot! We also held a fantastic exhibition exploring the school's fascinating history through the ages featuring many photos and documents of historical significance. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to marking this very special occasion with us.

Rain didn't stop play for Sports day!
Our annual Sports Day took place on Thursday, 13th June. The inclement weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the pupils who powered through the activities with smiles on their faces. A big thank you to all the parents, carers and staff that turned out despite the slightly soggy weather!

Book Week 2024
The week of Monday 20th May was Book Week at Lacock School. The children were lucky enough to benefit from two author visits - John Dougherty (children's author and poet extraordinaire) visited Oak and Beech classes on Tuesday while Eileen Browne (children's author and illustrator) visited Willow class on Thursday - both visits concluded with book signings with the authors! Other events during Book Week have included a visit to Corsham library, participation in The Big Read and our very own book fair. All in all it has been a super week which we hope will have boosted the children's love of books and enjoyment of reading for pleasure!

Duck Race and Easter Egg Hunt
On Thursday 28th March, we held our annual Duck Race which raised over £280. This was followed by the annual Easter Egg Hunt and we would like to thank the Naylor-Leyland family for hosting the children in their beautiful garden and generously providing eggs for all the children.

Fox Talbot Day - Friday 9th February
As part of our celebrations to mark the 200th birthday of Lacock School, on Friday 9th February, Staff and children dressed up as Georgians to celebrate Fox Talbot Day. Lacock School was built to mark the 21st birthday of William Henry Fox Talbot and was opened in 1824. Children visited the Abbey to make scrap books and undertake traditional letter writing, as well as being archaeological spotters in the Abbey grounds.
Following a packed lunch in keeping with the food available in 1824 (bread, cheese, traditional fruitcake etc.) the children tried out a variety of jobs which Georgian/Victorian children would have done. These included servant, Chimney Sweep, Candle Maker, Kitchen Hand, Bird Scarer, and Groom/Stable hand. Below are a selection of photos from the day.
Chippenham Dance Festival - February 2024
On Tuesday, 6th February, a number of our children took part in the Chippenham Dance Festival at the Neeld Hall. This year's theme was 'Around the World' and included performances from around 200 children from schools across the Chippenham area who put on a fantastic show to a sell-out audience of parents and carers.

I Can and I am Workshops - January 2024
On Wednesday, 31st January we were lucky enough to be visited by the charity I Can and I am, who brought their specially adapted double-decker bus complete with resident dog, Meg. Throughout the day, pupils from each class visited the bus to complete a self-belief workshop. The workshops involved pizza making followed by a reflection session looking at personal strengths, self-confidence and goal-setting. Parents and staff also had an opportunity to go on the bus after school. The feedback from pupils and staff was very positive and we hope that our pupils will be able to use some of the strategies they learnt in the future.

Lacock School Christmas Fair & Lantern Parade - December 2023
On Thursday, 14th December we held our annual Christmas Fair followed by our third annual lantern parade around the village. The fair raised £1000 for the school and the lantern parade made for a very pretty display which was enjoyed by everyone in the village.
