Welcome to Lacock Primary School
Lacock Primary is a school which has high expectations and aspirations for all pupils, where children are at the centre of all that we do. We draw on our strengths as a small, historic village school to provide a unique, inclusive and enriching curriculum, set within a strong, local community and rooted in Christian values, enabling children to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually in the modern world.
Our families know that when they send their children to Lacock Primary School, their children will not only be coming into a nurturing, caring, family community where they will develop a deep set of personal values, beliefs and attitudes to carry into the world around them, they will also receive uncompromisingly excellent and enriching education, to help them achieve their very best; all children flourish here and are fully equipped for the next step in their life’s journey, wherever that may be.
We'd love to share with you what we do, so please browse our website to find out all about us, or make an appointment through the School Office if you'd like to come and visit!

Lacock children and staff share a Christmas feast in the village hall
One of the highlights of our Christmas celebrations at Lacock School was our whole school Christmas lunch which was held in the village hall this year.
The Lacock Christmas elves had decked the hall with long tables set with festive table cloths, napkins and Christmas crackers, and a snowy backdrop and Christmas music topped off the festive atmosphere.
It was all hands on deck for the staff, with teachers and TAs serving up the food to the children before joining them for a lovely Christmas lunch provided by Lataca. It really was a joyous occasion which the whole school shared together.
With only two more sleeps until we will all be enjoying Christmas lunch with our own families, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Lacock children and their families, and our staff and supporters a very Merry Christmas, and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

Willow class put on a precious performance for this year's Nativity play
On Tuesday 10th December, Willow Class performed their Nativity – A Little Bird Told Me – to family and friends in two spectacular performances! The children worked so hard to learn their lines and pulled off a funny, heartwarming and very special performance to bring Christmas spirit to the whole community!
Thank you to the children and families of Willow Class for working so hard to prepare, and thank you to the whole Willow Class staff team who dedicated so much time to help put on such an amazing performance. A special thank you goes to Mrs Simms for spending hours sewing many of the costumes, and Mrs Ley for orchestrating the entire production!
The Friends of Lacock School also raised a further £108 through the Christmas Hamper raffle! Well done to the winners and thank you to parents of Willow Class for providing the prizes, and an extra thank you to Nettie Coop for creating such beautiful hampers to be won!

Lacock School Light the Night at 2024 Lantern Parade
On Monday 9th December, the whole village community gathered together for one of the most spectacular and heart-warming events in our school calendar: The Lacock Lantern Parade. Starting in the school playground, children and their families gathered to sing some Christmas songs, before parading through the village towards Lacock Abbey with their lanterns lighting the way and Christmas music leading the way.
We entered the Abbey grounds, following a lit trail towards the courtyard, where we enjoyed drinks and nibbles and sang more songs around the National Trust’s Christmas tree. This was then followed by the St Cyriac’s Band, who treated us to a performance of more Christmas carols. It was wonderful to bring together many branches of our village community – the school, the National Trust, the church and the local residents – to celebrate and share this special event together.
Thank you to the National Trust for allowing us to parade into the Abbey and providing drinks and nibbles, to St Cyriac’s Church Band for providing live music, Mrs Ley for practicing the songs with the children, and to Mrs Crowe and Mrs Tedds for leading the lantern-making workshops. It was a truly magical evening! The Friends of Lacock School also raised a further £366.75 through food and drink sales, very kindly supported by Lacock Shop! Thank you Sam and Ellie from the shop for supporting, and Jess Trought for designing the posters advertising the food/drink!

Oak children learn to follow the rules of the road for Road Safety Week 2024
On Friday afternoon, Oak Class visited neighbouring company Fleet Services GB, who hosted a Road Safety Week series of workshops to help our children learn more about how to stay safe on the roads!
We walked over a mile to their site, putting the rules of the road we'd learnt into practice, and were greeted by a giant traffic cone and Safety Man, as well as all the other Fleet Services staff dressed in different costumes! We then took part in several activities, including measuring stopping distances at different speeds, crossing the road with some temporary traffic lights set up in the car park, and explored several different vans and lorries, which included helping to 'test' their horns!
They very kindly provided the children with hats, goody bags and cupcakes, which had different road signs on top of them!
A huge thank you Fleet Services GB for helping to bring our learning about Road Safety to life; it was a great afternoon and the children loved it!
Thank you to Mr Hillier for coming along and taking such brilliant photos too!

BBC Children in Need 2024
Thank you for your donations for Friday's BBC Children in Need day. This year's campaign was focused on raising money to 'Make Life Lighter' for children and young people all over the UK. Our children had fun in their Pudsey-inspired spotty and stripey outfits and we raised a brilliant £144.
Fireworks night goes off with a bang!
We were very lucky again this year to be able to hold our fantastic bonfire and fireworks night at Owl Lodge on Thursday 7th November. The event was expertly run by the friends of Lacock school who did a fabulous job, keeping everyone safe and selling sparklers and glow sticks as well as a variety of hot food and drinks, sweets and candy floss. We are in the process of counting the money raised for the school but would like to say a big thank you to the Doel family for hosting us at Owl Lodge and to the FLS for ensuring the night went off with a bang!
Successful SIAMS Inspection!
We are delighted to be able to share our SIAMS Inspection Report following an inspection earlier this term, which gave the school a Judgement 1 confirming that:

Visit from Queen Camilla - A Perfect Finale to our Bicentenary Celebrations - 11th July 2024
Today we had the very great privilege of welcoming Her Majesty Queen Camilla to our school. The Queen’s visit heralded a magnificent ending to our series of activities and events marking the 200th anniversary of the school.
Following her arrival in the early afternoon, Queen Camilla was shown around the school by our Headteacher, Mrs Jackson and spent time with each of the classes, chatting with the children about their learning and hearing songs and poems.
The Queen also viewed our fantastic commemorative artwork, featuring photographs taken by the children in the style of William Henry Fox-Talbot (the school’s founder and pioneer of modern photography), and kindly signed our bicentenary scrapbook which we created to document all of this year's celebratory events.
Her majesty unveiled a plaque marking today’s visit and was presented with a posy and bicentenary badge by Parker Thomson and Arla Trought from Willow class (which she promised to wear!) before being treated to a performance by the children of a song which was specifically written about the school and highlights the school's vision.
The Queen very kindly gifted us a selection of books for our school library including a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone (the film of which featured various locations in Lacock), as well as Paddington At The Palace, The Tiger Who Came To Tea, Swallows And Amazons and Moorland Mousie, for which Her Majesty Queen Camilla wrote the foreword.
After joining us for a final group photograph underneath the school’s original 1824 foundation stone, the Queen greeted many of the assembled parents, carers and members of the public outside the school.
We would like to thank Her Majesty the Queen for taking time out of her busy schedule to visit us for the finale of our bicentenary celebrations and for her thoughtful and generous gifts to the school. We would also like to thank everyone who has been involved in planning, organizing, creating, fund raising and generating support for this year's wonderful program of bicentenary events. It has been an incredible year for our very special little village school, filled with so many special memories for the children to cherish for a lifetime.

Oak Class Residential 24th - 26th June 2024
The children in Oak class, along with Mrs White and Mrs Simms, had a fantastic time on their residential experience at Braeside last week. The sun shone throughout, enabling the children to take part in a whole raft of exciting activities including, orienteering, archery, building and cooking over camp fires, tackling the climbing wall and cooling off on a giant water slide (which was a reward for the children's excellent behaviour). We have enjoyed hearing all about their adventures and are sure that lasting memories were made!

Lacock School Bicentenary Celebration Service - 20th June 2024
At the end of last week we held a special service of celebration in St Cyriac’s church. The service celebrated 200 years of our school which was founded in 1824 by William Henry Fox-Talbot to mark his 21st birthday. Following the service, we hosted a tea party for parents/carers, past pupils and staff, and welcomed a very special guest - the great-great-great-grandson of Fox-Talbot! We also held a fantastic exhibition exploring the school's fascinating history through the ages featuring many photos and documents of historical significance. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to marking this very special occasion with us.

Rain didn't stop play for Sports day!
Our annual Sports Day took place on Thursday, 13th June. The inclement weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the pupils who powered through the activities with smiles on their faces. A big thank you to all the parents, carers and staff that turned out despite the slightly soggy weather!
