Design and Technology

Intent

The intent of our curriculum for Design and Technology at Lacock Primary School is to provide our children with opportunities which enable them to exercise their creativity through designing and making. We strive to teach skills progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn and practice in order to develop as they move through the school.

The aims of Design and Technology teaching and learning at Lacock School are:

  • To promote Design and Technology and to nurture the children’s imagination and creativity

  • To ensure a broad and balanced curriculum

  • To ensure that skills are built on and developed over the years.

  • To relate DT with other subjects combining skills from other parts of the curriculum.

  • To relate what they do to the real world opening their eyes to possibilities for DT beyond the classroom.

  • To teach cooking and nutrition to promote healthy eating as well as creativity in the subject.

Evaluation is an integral part of the design process and allows children to adapt and improve their product, this is a key skill which they need throughout their life. Design and Technology (DT) allows children to apply the knowledge and skills learned in other subjects, particularly Maths, Science and Art. Children’s interests are captured through theme learning, ensuring that links are made in a cross-curricular way, giving children motivation and meaning for their learning.
