Curriculum Intent

‘Teach a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it’ Proverbs 22:6

At Lacock school we want to ensure that all our children have the very best start on their educational journey. We aim for each and every child to become a successful learner by providing them with an engaging, exciting and aspirational curriculum that equips them for today, tomorrow and beyond with our Christian values and distinctiveness at its heart.

We aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that is designed to:

  • Recognise and build upon children’s prior learning

  • Provide hands on learning experiences

  • Foster curiosity and creativity and develop a lifelong love of learning

  • Develop our children’s interpersonal skills

  • Provide a moral and Christian foundation for life

Our Learning is planned through termly topics and themes. This gives new learning a context, focusing on appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum. Our curriculum is enriched through visits, both day and residential, and through visitors, who are experts in their field, coming into school to work alongside staff and children. We also welcome the support of parents within our school by encouraging them to come into school, where appropriate, to share their skills or expertise with the children.

We have a wonderful rural village setting here in Lacock that lies in the heart of a local community steeped in significant, global and historical importance. This rich local heritage permeates our entire curriculum design.

Pupil Voice
At Lacock Primary School, we believe that our children are the most important people and we endeavour to give them lots of opportunities to share their thoughts and opinions and play an active role in the decisions that affect their learning and well-being.

During the development of our curriculum the children were asked to share their thoughts about what they want to learn and how they would like to be taught. Our curriculum very much matches the needs and desires of our children.
