Art and Design
Intent
The intent of our curriculum for Art and Design at Lacock Primary School is to develop creativity, set challenges, engage and inspire children and equip them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. We aim to enable pupils to create artwork with a real purpose when displaying and sharing the work they create and showcasing the skills and progress they have made.
Our art and design curriculum aims to ensure that all children:
-
engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
-
develop competence in controlling materials and tools
-
enable children to observe and record from first-hand experience and from imagination
-
begin to develop an awareness of the visual and tactile elements including; colour, pattern and texture, line and tone, shape, form and space
-
become proficient in drawing, painting, printing, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
-
foster enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts
-
know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms and have an awareness of the roles and purposes of art and design in different times and cultures
-
and analyse works using the language of art and design and develop a cross-curricular approach to the use of art and design in all subjects.
